Colombian authorities are searching for a commercial plane that went missing near the border with neighboring Venezuela on Wednesday. There were 15 people on board, including one member of parliament, a candidate for the legislature and members of their team. TASR took the information from the AFP agency.

The plane took off from the city of Cúcuta on Wednesday and lost contact with the control tower just before the planned landing. It was supposed to arrive in the nearby town of Ocaña at 12:05 p.m. local time (6:05 p.m. CET). According to the aviation authority, security and search protocols have been activated.

The cities are located in a mountainous area with very variable weather. In addition, the largest Colombian guerrilla group, the National Liberation Army (ELN), operates in the region. According to Colombian MP Wilmer Carrillo, his parliamentary colleague Diógenes Quintero and parliamentary candidate Carlos Salcedo were on board with their team.
