The Minister of the Presidency, António Leitão Amaro
Leitão Amaro does not vote in favor of increasing the Audiovisual Contribution that finances RTP – which has to live with what it has.
The Minister of the Presidency stated this Wednesday that he is against the increase in the Audiovisual Contribution (CAV) that finances RTP, highlighting that the Portuguese already pay extra taxes.
António Leitão Amaro spoke at the regulatory hearing at the parliamentary committee on Culture, Communication, Youth and Sports.
“We really are against the increase in CAV and the Portuguese contribution to the RTP group“, highlighted the government official, when asked about the topic.
The minister said that the RTP has to live with the conditions it has and that “the Portuguese pay extra taxes“.
Leitão Amaro assured that the Government defends that the RTP should continue to be public – but does not advocate an investment in Mayr at the station.
“The public television and radio service can live” with less taxpayer moneycommented the Minister of the Presidency.
Regarding the voluntary departure program, “Whoever wants to leave” from RTP, said Leitão Amaro.
The minister reinforced that “a synergy plan with RTP must be developed”; because, with the “few resources we have in our country, it makes sense for services to be coordinated”.
