This tasty fish is called "chicken of the sea" for a reason. She is skinny and has no bones

Witlinek (Merlangius merlangus) is a small sea fish from the cod family. It occurs mainly in the waters of the North Atlantic, the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. Its length usually does not exceed 40 cm. The body is streamlined and elongated, the meat is white and mild in taste. Thanks to this, whiting differs from many species of fish and is sometimes called “chicken of the sea”.

Witlinek it is delicate, it even melts in your mouth. Although it is not very popular in Poland, its advantages have been appreciated by residents, among others: France, Great Britain or Ireland. Interestingly, in these countries it is sometimes called simply cod and is sold under this name.

Is whiting a healthy fish? Definitely yes – the health-promoting properties of this fish are definitely impressive.

First of all, it is a very good source of high-quality protein that supports muscle building and regeneration, and at the same time it has little fat, so it will certainly work for people who want to lose excess weight.

Whiting is also rich in vitamins and minerals. It contains B vitamins, as well as selenium, phosphorus and potassium. All this means that regular consumption of this fish can be a natural support, among others: proper functioning of the nervous system, healthy bones and metabolism.

“Chicken of the Sea” also contains unsaturated fatty acids from the omega-3 groupso it can also do a lot of good for the functioning of the circulatory system.

You wonder how to prepare whiting? This is an extremely versatile ingredient that you can prepare in many ways, and in any version this delicate fish will be exceptionally tasty. An additional advantage is the lack of bones.

The most popular option is, of course, coating the fish in breadcrumbs and frying it in a pan. Of course, you can also prepare whiting in the oven, with lemon juice, olive oil and herbs. An excellent option is to steam this fish – this option is especially suitable for children and seniors, the dish will be exceptionally light and healthy. Especially in the summer season, an interesting option is to grill whiting, or you can also stew it with your favorite vegetables.
