Not necessary and textiles they take up unnecessary space in our wardrobes or drawers. It is worth getting rid of them by giving them to people in need or – if they are very damaged – throwing them away. However, not everyone realizes that they cannot simply pack them into plastic bags and put them in the trash.
Textiles and clothing should come from PSZOK. Under certain conditions, they can be thrown into mixed waste, but these are exceptional situations. What exactly is this about? Find out what to do with unwanted textiles.
Clothes in good condition that are still wearable but are simply no longer needed should be donated to charity. Various collections are organized from time to time, and clothing is often collected directly from the house or apartment block.
You can also donate clothes to PCK or Caritas containers. First, of course, it is worth asking your family and friends if they would like to measure something. A jacket, shirt or trousers may be useful to someone.
In January 2025, the obligation to selectively collect waste such as clothing, textiles and footwear came into force. This task was entrusted to municipalities as part of the Selective Municipal Waste Collection Points (PSZOK). However, not everything has to be sent to PSZOK. Much depends on the specific situation.
The Ministry of Climate and Environment has indicated that in certain situations, used textiles may be placed in a mixed waste container. However, these are exceptional cases when the material is unsuitable for further use and is not covered with any environmentally hazardous chemicals.
Small-sized materials that constitute single items, such as a single, holey sock or glove, may also be placed in the mixed waste container. Contaminated, used materials that were, for example, used for cleaning can also be thrown into the mixed waste container.
