Firefighters on their way to the most affected areas, thousands of customers without electricity, special care with water and food.

The depression’s passage through mainland Portugal on Wednesday left a trail of destruction, causing at least five dead, according to Civil Protection, several were injured and displaced. The Câmara da Marinha Grande counts yet another fatality in the municipality.

Falling trees and structures, cutting or conditioning of roads and transport services, especially railway lines, closing schools and power, water and communications cuts were the main material consequences of the storm.

Firemen of a dozen corporations are moving to the most affected regions depression, to help the population, said a civil protection source, noting that during the night only 22 occurrences.

On Thursday, between 00:00 and 23:59, mainland Portugal had recorded 2,050 incidents related to bad weather, with Coimbra, Oeste and Leiria being the most affected regions, said a Civil Protection source.
