The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) believe that more than 71,000 Palestinians died throughout the war in the Gaza Strip, a number close to what had been presented by the Palestinian Ministry of Health, controlled by the terrorist group Hamas.

For the first time since the start of the conflict, Israeli authorities admitted that around 70,000 Palestinians died in the Gaza Strip. The information was disclosed in a report from sources linked to by The Times of Israel this Thursday (29).

The number makes an estimate official that is close to the data released by the which governs the Palestinian territory. According to the report, the total number of deaths could reach 71 thousand people, which represents approximately 3.5% of the population of Gaza, estimated at between 2.1 and 2.3 million inhabitants.

Israeli authorities emphasize that the number of victims could be even higher, as many bodies could still be under the rubble of buildings destroyed by the bombings.

The document, however, does not distinguish between civilians and terrorists from Hamas or other groups.

In addition to the deaths, the war caused widespread damage, with the destruction of infrastructure, housing and a severe psychological and humanitarian impact on survivors.
