President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva intends to carry out an intense itinerary during the carnival weekend in three strategic cities in the electoral race for a fourth term. The presidential office is already organizing the itinerary for the PT member, which foresees Lula going to Recife, to participate in the Galo da Madrugada, to Salvador and Rio de Janeiro, where he will watch the Acadêmicos de Niterói parade, which will pay tribute to the PT member.
With his travels, Lula has two objectives. At 80 years old, he wants to demonstrate vitality and energy for his fourth term, in addition to making gestures to his allies in the three capitals. In Recife, Lula was invited by Mayor João Campos (PSB) to be in the city on Saturday. In Pernambuco, Lula disputes hegemony with two platforms, as the PT member is also close to the governor of Pernambuco, Raquel Lyra (PSD), who will seek re-election and compete with João Campos.
In Salvador, Lula will be the main electoral leader of the thoroughbred ticket created by the PT, in which Jerônimo Rodrigues (PT) will seek re-election against ACM Neto (União), and the minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa (PT) and government leader in the Senate, Jaques Wagner (PT), will compete for the Senate. In Rio, Lula will attend a presentation by Acadêmicos de Niterói, the first school to parade, on Sunday, alongside mayor Eduardo Paes (PSD), who should support him in the race for the Rio de Janeiro government. The school has a plot in honor of the president and Lula is expected to be at the event in the box at Rio’s city hall.
Opportunity with security!
Aides say that Lula’s agenda in each of these cities is still being created, with a forecast of which activities the president will participate in. Members of the preliminary team for the presidency of the republic, which visits cities before the arrival of the presidential delegation, will visit the three capitals in the coming days.
After the Carnival tour, Lula will go on a week-long international itinerary. On Carnival Tuesday, the 17th, Lula leaves for India where he will stay until the 21st. From there he will head to South Korea, between the 22nd and 24th of February. In March, Lula confirmed that he will go to the United States to meet President Donald Trump in Washington.
