Pope Leo XIV sent a message to Portugal, following the passage of which left a trail of destruction in Portugal and killed several people. The Supreme Pontiff refers Our Lady of Fátima to grant “comforting apostolic blessing”.
The Pope expresses “his sorrow for the people who lost their lives, spiritually uniting with pain of their respective families”, states the Secretary of State of the Holy See in the message addressed to D. José Ornelas, bishop of Leiria-Fátima.
According to Pietro Parolin, the Supreme Pontiff prays for the civil, military and religious authorities and institutions for help, “feeling very closely the situation of the injured, the displaced and those who were seriously affected” by the storm.
