This Friday, the PSP destroyed almost seven thousand weapons in a company in Maia, in an action marked on the Day of Non-Violence and Culture of Peace. The weapons were removed from circulation to prevent them from being used in crimes.
According to the Police, around 325,000 weapons have been destroyed since 2013. Filipe Palhau, director of the Department of Weapons and Explosives, highlighted that this operation represents a reinforcement of public security.
The initiative was attended by the national director of the PSP, Luís Carrilho, and the Deputy Secretary of State and Internal Administration, Paulo Simões Ribeiro, who highlighted the increase in seizures as a result of the operational commitment of the security forces.
Among the destroyed material were shotguns, pistols, shotguns, batons and knives. Part of the weapons were reused, with 1926 reused and 551 destined for training and operational activity.
