When traveling by plane, many passengers opt for more comfortable clothes to make the flight more enjoyable. However, aviation experts warn that some choices may not be the most appropriate, whether for hygiene or safety reasons during the trip.
Long pants offer greater protection during the flight
According to the British newspaper, Daily Mail, Tommy Cimato, a member of an air crew, explained on social media that wearing long pants reduces contact with bacteria and germs. This happens because the pants act as a barrier between the skin and the seat, which can accumulate residue from previous passengers.
Skin exposure on surfaces used by hundreds of people daily represents a risk, especially when it is not known whether cleaning was carried out completely between flights.
Proper footwear is essential
The type of footwear also deserves attention. Andrea Fischbach, flight attendant at American Airlines, warns against wearing flip-flops, open sandals or high heels, which should be avoided.
In the event of an evacuation, the emergency slides are activated, and unsuitable shoes can damage the equipment or make it difficult to exit quickly.
Although many airlines advise removing heels before using the slide, in a real situation there is not always time for this.
Avoid walking barefoot on the plane
Christine Negroni, a journalist specializing in aviation, remembers that walking barefoot in the cabin also presents risks. If evacuation is necessary, the ground may be very cold, covered in debris or other hazardous materials.
Furthermore, walking without shoes increases contact with bacteria and food debris that may be on the floor.
Warm and practical clothing is recommended
Although there are no formal rules about what to wear on a flight, aviation professionals suggest opting for practical, comfortable clothing that covers a large part of the body.
He states that long, warm pieces offer extra protection, both in terms of hygiene and in the event of an accident. Fabrics such as thick cotton pants or fine wool are ideal for winter travelers.
Closed shoes ensure safety
When it comes to footwear, closed shoes are recommended, easy to put on and take off, but which provide firmness when walking, even in unexpected situations.
Right choices make the difference
The selection of clothing and footwear may seem like a minor detail, but, according to aviation experts, it makes a difference in unforeseen situations on board.
Proper preparation contributes to a safer and more comfortable journey during the cold months.
