Aneel maintains the green tariff flag and confirms that there will be no additional cost on electricity bills during the period
The (National Electric Energy Agency) announced this Friday (January 30, 2026) that the tariff flag will continue in February. As a result, there will be no additional charges for consumers next month.
The system indicates the energy generation conditions in the country. When the flag is green, it means that the cost of producing electricity is considered favorable, mainly because of the good level of the reservoirs at hydroelectric plants, which are the main source of the Brazilian electricity matrix.
The maintenance of the green flag in February indicates continuity of the positive scenario observed at the beginning of 2026, with favorable generation conditions and less need for more expensive sources. According to Aneel, the objective of the system is to provide transparency to the costs of the electricity sector and encourage the conscious use of energy.
Even without additional charges, the agency reinforces the importance of responsible consumption, especially during the summer period, when the use of devices such as air conditioning tends to increase.
tariff flags
Created in 2015, the mechanism works as a signal to the consumer. In periods of water scarcity or greater activation of thermoelectric plants – which have a higher cost –, Aneel can activate the yellow or red flags, which result in extra charges for every 100 kilowatt-hours (kWh) consumed.
