“If you limp and go to work”: World Cup coordinator attacks mayor after standoff over gym in Sena

The final of the Intermunicipal Futsal Cup, held on Friday night (30) in Sena Madureira, had developments that went beyond the sporting dispute and generated political repercussions in the municipality. Faced with the city council’s refusal, the World Cup coordination needed to look for alternatives to guarantee the holding of the final between the Sena Madureira team and Brasiléia. The solution came through coordination with the Government of the State of Acre, which responded to the request and enabled the revitalization of the Hermilton Gadelha Pessoa gym. The space underwent improvements and ended up hosting the decisive match, which featured a packed gym and a celebratory atmosphere among the fans.

After the end of the game, Alexandre Martins recorded a video criticizing Mayor Gerlen Diniz. In the recording, he stated that the manager should “limp along and go to work”, in reference to the refusal to use a public space for a large sporting event.

The statement gained repercussion on social media, especially after reports from local residents and athletes who pointed out that the refusal of the municipal gym was related to political issues. According to these criticisms, the municipal administration would not give up space for sporting events linked to groups considered adversaries, even though it is public property.

The episode reignited the debate about the use of public spaces and the relationship between sport and political disputes in the municipality. Organizers and athletes report difficulties in facilitating sports competitions, often depending on organizations outside the municipal sphere to guarantee the events.

While the video continues to circulate on social media and divide opinions, the final of the Intermunicipal Cup was marked not only by the result on the court, but also by the controversy surrounding the organization of the tournament and the municipal management of Sena Madureira.
