Judge orders release of five-year-old child detained by ICE in Minneapolis

The arrest occurred when ICE agents arrested a father and son at home, who had been detained since January 20, after the child returned from school in Minneapolis.

A federal judge in the United States ordered the release of Liam Conejo Ramos, a five-year-old child, and his father who were detained at an immigration center in south Texas, CNN revealed.

The images of the action, which showed an officer holding the boy’s backpack, went viral and aroused strong media attention and public criticism.

Father and son were later transferred to the family detention center in Dilley, Texasdesigned to house detained families, where they spent more than a week in custody.

In his decision, the judge ordered that father and son be released by Tuesday, taking into account that the immigration regularization process is ongoing and that their departure should not be prevented before then.

The detention of Liam Rabbit Ramoswho attends pre-school education, sparked outrage across the country, with critics arguing that the officers’ actions were excessive and putting the well-being of children at risk.
