The agreement between the US and Argentina is one step closer: Trump wants to send immigrants to…

Representatives of the United States and Argentina are in an advanced stage of negotiations to sign an agreement that would allow Washington to deport immigrants from other states to this South American country. This was reported by The New York Times (NYT) on Friday, writes TASR according to the Reuters agency.

According to the newspaper, Argentina tried to finalize the mentioned agreement with the USA during this month. Reuters could not independently confirm this report. A spokesman for the US State Department declined to comment on the matter, and Argentina’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

According to Reuters, the agreement with Argentina would strengthen the intention of US President Donald Trump deport the millions of illegal immigrants who are in the US. His administration is already focusing on intensifying deportations to third countries, such as South Sudan, Eswatini, El Salvador, Costa Rica or Panama.

Although Argentina has had a relatively open immigration policy in the past, President Javier Milei, a close Trump ally, is trying to tighten the rules in this area by cracking down on people with criminal records and requiring travelers to have health insuranceReuters explains.
