Alckmin participates in the opening of a social space in Ceilândia, in Brasília

The vice-president and minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC), Geraldo Alckmin, participated this Sunday in the inauguration of a therapeutic community in Ceilândia, an administrative region in Brasília (DF). After a mass, the initial step was taken towards the operation of Fazenda da Esperança Nossa Senhora das Mercês, which serves drug addicts.

Linked to social causes, the second lady, Lu Alckmin, was also present. Representatives of parliamentarians from the Federal District were present, such as senator Damares Alves (Republicans), federal deputy Bia Kicis (PL) and senator Izalci Lucas (PL). The mass was performed by Archbishop Fernando Guimarães.

Fazenda da Esperança is a voluntary shelter for drug addicts. Today a new unit was opened. After the mass, there were greetings from the organizers of the ceremony to the Lula government, to parliamentarians, in addition to praise for the government of the Federal District.

Currently, on the part of the federal government, approximately 600 therapeutic communities have been “contracted”, offering 16 thousand places throughout Brazil, according to the Brazilian Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Combating Hunger (MDS). Wellington Minister Dias, also at the event, said that the government transfers around R$280 million per year or R$1,200 per month for each person assisted in these 600 units.
