this Saturday (31), brought together former ministers of Lula, Michel Temer and Jair Bolsonaro, as well as former federal deputies and the president of the PSD, Gilberto Kassab, who made a quick stop at the place.
Kassab’s unexpected arrival led to jokes that he would be the party’s fourth presidential candidate. “How did you guess?”, replied Kassab, good-naturedly, when asked.
The event was attended by Roberto Rodrigues, who held the Agriculture portfolio in the Lula government, Leandro Cruz, who was Temer’s Minister of Sports, and two military personnel who served under Bolsonaro: Admiral Bento Albuquerque, formerly of Mines and Energy, and General Fernando Azevedo, who was from Defense.
In the packed auditorium at the headquarters of the Engineers’ Union, in the center of São Paulo, there were also former federal deputies, unionists and leaders of farmers and miners from the Amazon.
One notable absence was that of Bolsonaro’s former Secretary of Social Communication. Officially he was not there for family health reasons, but there is resistance among the pre-candidate’s supporters in having him on the ticket.
In a long speech, Aldo discussed topics such as nationalism and the need for Brazil to invest in science and technology to face competition from other countries.
He also defended mining in reserves and the expansion of the agricultural frontier and criticized the Federal Supreme Court for invading areas that would be the jurisdiction of Congress, as in the
“The Supreme Court cannot be a power above the others. You cannot have this imbalance, this creates serious institutional insecurity”, said the pre-candidate. In the audience, there were shouts of “Aldo is going to rise, the toga is going to fall”.
