Civil Defense Coordinator will be the new number 2 of Public Security in SP

Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) chose Military Police Colonel Henguel Ricardo Pereira as the new executive secretary of the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat (SSP). Henguel will take over the post from Colonel Paulo Maculevicius Ferreira. The appointment will be published in the Official Gazette later this week.

Current chief secretary of the Military House and coordinator of the State’s Civil Defense, the colonel will be number 2 in command of Public Security, a department commanded since December by delegate Osvaldo Nico Gonçalves.

The colonel will leave his positions in the Military House and Civil Defense. Palácio dos Bandeirantes has not yet defined the names of the replacements, something that will also be announced this week.

Henguel took over the Military House and the coordination of the São Paulo Civil Defense in 2022, still under the management of Rodrigo Garcia (former PSDB). He transferred to the reserves on January 30th, after almost 40 years in the Military Police.

As an officer, Henguel worked in high-profile cases, such as the fire at the Memorial da América Latina, in 2013, and the TAM plane crash, in 2007.

The colonel was also one of the soldiers investigated for the episode known as Operation Castelinho, which killed 12 suspected members of the Primeiro Comando da Capital faction, in 2002.
