The president of the Chamber has already said this year that support for the PT member on the Paraíba platform would depend on concrete gestures
In the week of resumption of work in the National Congress, the President Lula bets on political articulation already known from other mandates: an informal meeting with Legislative leaders. The head of the Executive will welcome the presidents of the Chamber and Senate, as well as leaders from the allied base, in a barbecue at Granja do Tortoin Brasília, next Wednesday.
The information was confirmed to Young Pan by the government leader in the Chamber, deputy José Guimarães (PT-CE). According to him, the meeting details are still being adjusted and should be closed next Monday.
Interlocutors of the President of the Chamber, Hugo Motta, stated that he will be present. Motta already said this year that support for Lula on the Paraíba platform would depend on concrete gestures.
The initiative of Planalto seeks to rescue a model of dialogue that Lula has already used in previous administrationsbut which will be unprecedented in this term. The internal assessment is that the relaxed environment can help reinforce the unity of the government base at the beginning of the legislative year, in a period considered strategic, on the eve of the electoral calendar.
Allies heard by Young Pan report that the president usually asks that these meetings not be restricted to strictly political conversations. The idea is to create an informal atmosphere, which allows for the exchange of views, alignment of expectations and adjustments to the government’s strategy for the coming months to strengthen relationships and unlock agendas.
The movement is part of Planalto’s effort to strengthen the institutional relationship with the Legislature.
Even before the official return of Congress, Lula must meet with the presidents of the Chamber, Hugo Motta, and the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre, during the opening of the year of the Judiciary, on Monday, the 2nd, at 2 pm.
Os Work in Congress officially resumes this Mondaywith an extensive agenda and considered a priority by the government. In the first week, the free trade agreement between Mercosur and the European Union comes into discussion. Also on the agenda is the People’s Provisional Gas Measure, which expires on February 11th.
Other sensitive topics are expected to advance in the coming weeks. The Public Security PEC can be voted on in the special committee between the 23rd and 24th of February. THE Young Pandeputy Mendonça Filho stated that he intends to meet this week with the Minister of Justice to discuss the matter.
In the area of security, the government is also trying to move forward with which creates a new tax on online betting and expects revenue of up to R$30 billion per year. The regulation of application workers, scheduled for March, and the debate about the end of the 6×1 scale, expected for April, are still on the radar.
Furthermore, the analysis of the veto to the dosimetry law and the appointment of Jorge Messias to the Federal Supreme Court remain pending.
At Palácio do Planalto, the assessment is that the government needs to approve as many matters as possible in the first semester. From the second half of the year onwards, the tendency is for Congress’ focus to turn almost entirely to the elections.
