Presidential: Mota Amaral votes for Seguro, which he considers "a prepared person"

The former president of the Assembly of the Republic and honorary president of the PSD/Açores reveals that he will vote in the second round as in the first for António José Seguro.

The former president of the Assembly of the Republic and honorary president of the PSD/Açores, Mota Amaral, said this Sunday that he will vote for António José Seguro in the second round of the presidential elections because he is “a prepared person” for the position.

“Yes, I will vote [em António José Seguro]. I had already voted in the first [volta] too,” Mota Amaral told Lusa news agency today.

“I know him well, because we were in Parliament together and I think it’s a good choice, hence my option. And, even more so, given the alternative”, he added.

The former president of the Regional Government of the Azores said that Seguro “is a prepared person, who has thought about national problems very calmly, with great security”.

“He will certainly apply these principles in carrying out his mandate”, he noted.

Mota Amaral also reminded Lusa that António José Seguro “is responsible for a review of the Regulations of the Assembly of the Republic that is extremely important to consider its role as the center of political debate”.

António José Seguro and André Ventura received the most votes in the first round of the elections for the Belém Palace and will compete in the second round, on February 8th.

The candidate supported by the PS, and now also by Livre, PCP and BE, won 31% of the votes and Ventura, leader of Chega, obtained 23%.

In third place was Cotrim Figueiredo, supported by the Liberal Initiative, with 16%, ahead of Gouveia e Melo, with 12%, and Marques Mendes, supported by the PSD and CDS-PP, with 11%.

On the left, Catarina Martins (BE) had 2%, António Filipe (PCP) had 1.6% and Jorge Pinto (Livre) 0.6%, below the artist Manuel João Vieira, who got 1%. Unionist André Pestana collected 0.2% and Humberto Correia 0.08%.
