The US is suffocating Cuba, the crisis in the country is gaining momentum: Trump announces tough negotiations

US President Donald Trump declared on Saturday that he believes in concluding an agreement between the United States and Cuba. TASR informs about it according to a Reuters report.

“I think they’re probably going to come to us and want to make a deal. They’re in a very bad situation for Cuba. They have no money. They have no oil. They’ve lived off Venezuelan money and oil, but now they have neither.” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One.

Venezuela was Cuba’s largest supplier of oil in 2025, covering roughly a third of the island’s daily needs. Venezuela’s oil supplies to Cuba fell even before the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro due to the US blockade.

A few days ago, Trump threatened to impose tariffs on countries supplying oil to Cuba. Reuters reported in January that Mexico is also considering limiting oil supplies to Cuba due to concerns about objections from the United States.
