Undefined decisions by the governor and the veto by the senator () shuffled the race for the Government of Paraná, leaving two months until the final date for party affiliations.
The impasse is in the camp of the right and center-right, which has commanded the Iguaçu Palace for more than 15 years, adding the mandates of (PSDB) and Ratinho Junior —former secretary of the tucano and who in 2026, alongside (GO) and (RS), is part of the list of the party chaired by .
In the PSD, three names appear today on the list of pre-candidates for the government, but behind the scenes he has already signaled a preference for the Secretary of Cities, Guto Silva, although he has not yet publicly admitted the option.
The report found that the other two PSD members interested in the vacancy, the president of the Legislative Assembly, Alexandre Curi, and the state secretary for Sustainable Development, Rafael Greca, are considering leaving the party by April, if they are in fact passed over for the governor’s party.
Both have been courted by other right-wing parties. Curi consolidated a network of allies in city halls. Greca was mayor of Curitiba three times.
PSD supporters fear that the lack of definition could benefit Sergio Moro, who has already presented himself as a pre-candidate for the state Executive since the 2024 municipal election.
The situation of the former federal judge, however, is also mixed. Moro ended the year without knowing whether he could continue with União Brasil to run for Palácio Iguaçu, faced with a veto from the PP leaders.
In December, federal deputy Ricardo Barros announced that and, on the same date, senator Ciro Nogueira (PI), who is the national president of the party, warned that he does not intend to interfere in the local position.
The decision creates an impasse because, at the national level, PP and União Brasil form a federation, the União Progressista. Therefore, the parties must hammer out candidacies together.
The report found that the PP works with three possibilities. One of them is to support the PSD candidate chosen by Ratinho Junior. Another idea is to launch your own name, such as the former governor and former federal deputy Cida Borghetti, Barros’ wife, or the former mayor of Londrina and former federal deputy Marcelo Belinati.
A third possibility for the PP is to offer membership to Greca and put him in the running.
Moro already has the support of the national president of União Brasil, Antônio de Rueda, and would have difficulty finding shelter in another party.
Former president Jair Bolsonaro’s PL as well. The Novo party even rehearsed a pre-candidacy via Paulo Martins, vice-mayor of Curitiba, but supporters also do not rule out an alliance with the PSD.
In the left and center-left camp, there are already definitions. The decided to support the pre-candidacy of state deputy Requião Filho, from PDT, for the state government. The decision repeats the strategy adopted by the PT members in 2024, when the PT opted to support a group of PSB and PDT allies, discarding its own candidacy.
The objective of the president’s party is to prioritize a competitive platform in this political field, even if it does not have its own names on the ticket.
The option for an alliance in Paraná for the Iguaçu Palace also represents a rapprochement with the Requião family. In 2022, former governor and former senator Roberto Requião joined the PT and entered the race for the state Executive to give Lula a regional platform. But, at the beginning of 2024, he left the party, claiming to have been ignored by the party after the .
Last July, Requião joined the PDT alongside his son, who became a pre-candidate for the government.
