The bishop says that the former president (PL) told him that he expects the electoral race to heat up after Carnival, and reiterated his option for his son Flávio as presidential candidate.
The former president’s comments were made last Friday (30), during Rodovalho’s one-hour visit to Bolsonaro in the cell where he is detained, in Brasília.
According to the bishop, most of the visit was dedicated to spiritual and medical topics. For Rodovalho, the former president entered a “worrying spiral”.
“I saw a complicated situation. He remains very fragile. I arrived at around 10:30 am, he hadn’t had breakfast yet nor did he feel like having lunch”, says Rodovalho, who received permission from Minister Alexandre de Moraes (STF) to provide spiritual assistance to Bolsonaro on periodic visits.
The bishop reports that, during the visit, a medical team entered the cell to measure Bolsonaro’s blood pressure. “He hiccuped a lot of the time. When he takes medication, the hiccups subside, but he becomes groggy and dizzy,” says Rodovalho.
The religious leader and Bolsonaro were alone in the cell for most of the visit. During this period, Rodovalho read an excerpt from Psalm 103 of the Bible, which preaches renewal and compares humans to an eagle.
They also sang the song “Deus está aqui” a cappella,
“I told the president that faith strengthens the mind, that we cannot allow ourselves to be consumed by hopelessness. He then asked me what factors could generate hope, and I replied that often we don’t know. Life is not made up of determined factors, it is full of unforeseen situations”, stated Rodovalho.
“President Lula himself is an example, who would have imagined that he would leave prison to return to power?”, added the religious man.
