Senator Ciro Nogueira he ruled out being a candidate for Flávio Bolsonaro’s vice president. “The total focus is on my re-election to the Senate of Piauí”, said the senator during his participation in the “Direito ao Ponto” program on Jovem Pan. “I had said in the state of Piauí that if I had to make a choice, I would choose to continue defending my state. I have already mentioned my name to President Bolsonaro himself, who is outside this range of possible candidates for Senator Flávio’s vice-president”, he explained.

Ciro was one of the names mentioned to run alongside the son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, but reported that he was not invited for the position.

Candidate for re-election as senator, Nogueira makes a prediction of the 2026 electoral scenario. “We are heading towards an election similar to the past, two very different poles, the polarization that sometimes goes beyond reason and leaves aside the country’s interest”, he said. “Hopefully the debate will be better than the last election so that the country can choose someone who will unify us and turn the page on these useless disputes,” he added.

Nogueira, who classified Flávio Bolsonaro as “Bolsonaro who got vaccinated”, said that the senator has everything it takes to run a good campaign, because it will be necessary to compete with a “great leader” like Lula. “If you don’t run a good campaign, you’ll just be a candidate to defend a legacy and if you do that, you’ll be doomed to lose the election,” he said.

“We need to run a campaign that unifies Brazil, that focuses on the future of this country to have a real chance of winning this election, he added.

‘This is a rejection election’

Ciro Nogueira sees the 2026 elections as an election of rejection, that is, whoever is least rejected will win. “Flávio is capable of winning this election because it is an election of rejection. President Bolsonaro lost the election because he was rejected more than Lula,” he said. “People didn’t vote for Lula because they loved him, they voted to overthrow Bolsonaro.”

For him, the current scenario is very similar, and people will vote for Flávio to defeat Lula. “There is a huge amount of rejection against the president, he is a president who is more rejected than approved.” To get the best, Nogueira argues that Flávio needs to reduce his rejection. “The candidates need to speak more to the center that will decide this election”, he concluded.
