The lawyer said he has clients accused of more serious crimes who respond free and compared them with the case of Pedro, who he claims was being persecuted for his social class. “So, Pedro is in prison because he is a young, white man, positioned in society as middle class, a sports car driver. We understand that the Prison is the most extreme measure and should only be adopted in extreme cases“, he argued.

The defense asks for impartiality and fairness in the process. “The grounds adopted to arrest him are absurd. We disagree, we have already filed a request to revoke the arrest, we have already requested an appointment with the judge who is the natural judge of the case and, yes, we have filed a habeas corpus. We believe that justice must be done, equality must be established and what the Internet Court has done with Pedro can be stopped”, said the lawyer.

“We are talking about a 19-year-old person, who could have an electronic ankle monitor, who could be under house arrest, who could have a series of precautionary measures established there, not present himself after a certain time, not approach witnesses, the victim’s family, a series of situations that were not this extreme measure. What happens with this arrest is that it is a social response”, claimed Eder Fior.

“Spectacularization”

The lawyer criticizes the handling of the case by . According to the defender, the corporation is making a “spectacularization of the case”.

“We really feel a lot about this spectacularization that is being done. Note that the judge who ordered Pedro’s arrest was emphatic at the end of the decision in ordering that the police not spectacularize the case, not expose Pedro’s image and make sure that it took place within a protective environment. That was not what happened. We saw authority crying”, he criticized.

The defense also criticized the fact that the delegate of the 38th Police Station (Vicente Pires), Pablo Aguiar, cried on Friday (30/1), during a press conference when detailing the case. “We saw authorities who do not have professional qualifications in the medical field to call my client a sociopath. We saw an early conviction with the inflaming of society, of public opinion. And that is the only reason my client is in prison. And with that we cannot agree”, he concluded.
