Federal deputies Sâmia Bomfim (SP) and Fernanda Melchionna (RS), both from PSOL, sent a request to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, asking for action regarding the arrest of Brazilian teenagers and children by the government of , in the USA.
showing that at least 157 Brazilian minors were apprehended by US agents from January to October 2025.
Of these, 142 were taken to Immigration and Customs Service detention centers.
The parliamentarians ask that the ministry continuously monitor the situation of these minors, based on the fact that Brazil is a signatory to the International Convention on the Rights of the Child.
“It is urgent that this ministry intercede with the competent immigration bodies to guarantee the prompt release of minors who are still in custody, making every effort to ensure that due consular monitoring of the case is carried out and/or intensified, thus providing the necessary support to guarantee the protection of such children and adolescents”, says the request.
The deputies also want information to be provided to the public and to the National Congress on the updated number of minors apprehended, ongoing measures and the responses obtained from the American authorities.
