Manuel Castro Almeida’s interview with SIC’s Jornal da Noite generated controversy due to a “moment of tension” with Rodrigo Guedes de Carvalho. The Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion was talking about support for victims of the Kristin depression, in the center of the country, when he was faced with the urgency of help on the ground.
When explaining that there is minimum survival support, worth 537 euros per person, Castro Almeida admitted that the money should only arrive at the end of the month. Faced with the journalist’s insistence on the victims’ immediate needs, the minister stated that “they are supposed to have had last month’s salary”.
The response led Rodrigo Guedes de Carvalho to react immediately, highlighting that the Government was counting on the salaries of the victims themselves while many remained without a roof and with water entering their homes. The moment quickly became one of the most talked about on social media, with criticism of the lack of immediate responses.
