US and Iran set to meet on Friday to discuss nuclear deal in Istanbul

White House Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi are expected to meet this Friday in Istanbul, Turkey, along with representatives from several Arab and Muslim countries, to discuss a possible nuclear deal, people familiar with the matter told the Axios.

According to the information, the meeting at the end of the week is “the best possible scenario”, but nothing is defined until it happens. In a post on X, the reporter from Axios Barak Ravid mentioned that an American official stated that the summit will focus on trying to develop a package of measures to avoid war. “The official emphasized that the Trump administration expects Iran to attend the meeting willing to make the necessary concessions,” he wrote.

At the same time, in another publication on X, the Al Jazeera reported that, according to Iranian Intelligence Minister Esmaeil Khatib, negotiations are being conducted “based on national interests and instructions from the National Security Council.”
