A meeting between the United States and Iran will probably be held on February 6 in Turkey, an Arab official told AFP on Tuesday (3, local date – evening in Brazil), after that Tehran called for the resumption of nuclear talks and Washington warned of consequences if there is no agreement.

“It is likely that a meeting between the American negotiators and senior Iranian officials take place on Friday [06/02] in Türkiye,” said the official on condition of anonymity. The source added that the likely meeting is the result of “management by Egypt, Qatar, Turkey and Oman,” he added.

The information comes amid increased tension between the two countries. This Monday (2), the President of the United States, Donald Trump, warned that “bad things” will happen if Iran fails to reach an agreement with the United States, after Tehran asked to start talks on its nuclear program with Washington.

“Right now, we’re talking to them, we’re talking to Iran, and if we can find a solution that would be stupendous. And if that’s not possible, bad things are probably going to happen,” Trump told reporters at the White House. With tensions escalating, the Republican avoided talking about any possible military action against Iran, but reiterated that a “tremendous force”, which includes an aircraft carrier sent to the Middle East, would soon arrive in the region.
