US shoots down Iranian drone near aircraft carriers in Arabian Sea

An Iranian drone was shot down this Tuesday (3) when it approached a United States aircraft carrier in an “aggressive” manner in the Arabian Sea, according to the American Central Command.

The unmanned aircraft was intercepted by an F-35C fighter that had taken off from the USS Abraham Lincoln, in an action classified as self-defense.

According to Captain Tim Hawkins, spokesman for US Central Command, the ship was operating approximately 500 miles off the coast of Iran when the drone began to approach without its intentions being clear. The decision to shoot it down, he said, was intended to protect the aircraft carrier and its crew.
