Former prince was forced to leave the Royal Lodge on Monday night
Former Prince Andrew, brother of King Charles III, left his residence in Windsor following new revelations about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, citing a source from the British Royal House.
André Mountbatten-Windsor, 65, had lived for decades at Royal Lodge, a large property located in the Windsor complex. According to The Sun newspaper, the former prince was forced to leave on Monday night, in a discreet operation, having moved to a country house in Sandringham, the king’s property in the county of Norfolk.
A royal source confirmed that André is now residing in Sandringham, admitting, however, that he may return to Windsor promptly in the coming weeks, while a period of transition takes place.
“With the most recent set of files related to Epstein, it became clear to him that it was time to leave”, referring to statements from a friend of the Duke. “The exit was so humiliating that he chose to do it under cover of night.”
King Charles III granted military titles and royal patronage to André in October, in a decision taken after new details about his brother’s connection to Epstein became public.
On Friday, the United States Department of Justice released new documents related to the Epstein case, including emails that suggest that Prince Andrew maintained regular contact with the financier for more than two years, even after Epstein was convicted in 2008 of sexual crimes involving minors.
André denies any criminal involvement and had previously stated that he cut ties with Epstein after his conviction, with the exception of a visit to New York in 2010, which, he said, was intended to put an end to the friendship. The new revelations contradict this version, reigniting the controversy surrounding the Duke of York’s role in the case.
