Back to school at half-gas: schools in the Leiria region begin to open after the storm

A week after the storm that hit the region, the return to school is uneven. While some schools in Leiria managed to reopen, such as Escola Básica da Guimarota, in Vieira de Leiria all schools remain closed due to serious damage.

The Army continues to work to rid the Padre Franklin School of metal, debris and rubble, while volunteers, former students but also teachers, take care of the interior of the buildings.

The closure of this school ends up decreeing the closure of others. Without water, without electricity and flooded, Padre Franklin’s canteen, which served several schools in the group, will remain closed indefinitely.
