The Budapest court sentenced Maja T. to eight years in prison for attacks at a neo-Nazi event, during which nine people were injured. At the same time, the German authorities warn against the reactions of extremists.
On Wednesday, the Budapest court sentenced German citizen Maja T. to eight years in prison. According to the court, a German woman was involved in physical attacks by far-left activists at a meeting of neo-Nazis in the Hungarian capital in February 2023. Referring to the telex.hu server, the TASR correspondent in Budapest reports on this.
Maja T. and her accomplices were put on trial for a total of five attacks in which nine people were injured, four of them seriously. The accused attacked a group of people who, based on their clothing, believed to be right-wing extremists and were going to “Day of Honor”, an annual gathering of far-right and neo-Nazi groups around February 11.
Judgment and charge
The court found 25-year-old Maja T. guilty of attempted grievous bodily harm and membership in a criminal organization. The verdict is not final yet.
The German citizen was arrested in Berlin in December 2023 and extradited to Hungary in June 2024. Six others accused of involvement in the attacks were tried in Germany earlier this year.
Possible threats of attacks
On Wednesday, the German Federal Criminal Office (BKA) warned in connection with the expected verdict in the case of Maje T. against the threat of attacks by left-wing extremists on Hungarian embassies in Germany.
German security forces monitor the activities of left-wing extremists who organize demonstrations in Germany and other European countries in support of the defendant. Tighter security measures apply in the vicinity of Hungarian embassies in Germany.
