Camilo Santana says he will leave MEC in April – 02/03/2026 – Politics

The minister of PT (PT) stated that he will leave office in April to dedicate himself to the electoral campaign.

In an interview with CNN Brasil this Tuesday (3), he said that he intends to work in the re-election campaigns of President Lula and the governor of Ceará, Elmano de Freitas, also from PT. Camilo stated that he will not be a candidate for government.

The minister is a licensed senator, with a mandate in the Legislature until 2031. He is tipped to replace the current governor in the state dispute, whose re-election is threatened by the candidacy of ().

Camilo told CNN Brasil that Elmano will grow in the polls. “I have no doubt that Elmano will be re-elected governor and I will be there with him.”

Regarding Ciro’s candidacy, he said that “no one chooses an opponent” and said that there is a “downturn” in state politics.

The minister has been under pressure for months from allies to withdraw from the federal government in time to be able to contest the election – the deadline is at least six months before the vote, that is, until April.

Both the president’s and the minister’s allies believe that he would only run for the Ceará government upon an express order from Lula. Even outside the state government, the minister is sought out to close his group’s main political agreements.
