Why was the Brazilian Championship outside of video games?
If confirmed, the return would end a long absence. The Brazilian Championship has not officially appeared in the franchise since FIFA 14, a time when the series still used the nickname FIFA. Since then, Brazilian clubs have been left out for a well-known and recurring reason: the Pelé Law.
Sanctioned in 1998 and officially called Law No. 9,615/98, the legislation regulates sport in Brazil and imposes a particularity that directly impacts electronic games. In the country, the use of athletes’ images needs to be negotiated individually, through direct contracts with each athlete.
While in many markets EA Sports is able to sign collective agreements with leagues or federations, guaranteeing the rights of clubs and athletes in a unified way, in Brazil this model is not allowed.
EA Sports FC 26 launched globally on September 26, 2025, with some versions (like the Ultimate Edition) granting early access from September 19.
