Considered to run for the Senate in these elections, state deputy Gil Diniz (-SP) adopted the clan’s surname, defended the presidential claim of (PL-RJ) and provoked the governor of , (Republicans), by saying that the PL should present its own candidacy in the state.
During a speech at the Alesp (São Paulo Legislative Assembly) plenary this Tuesday (3), Gil, one of ,’s closest allies, mocked a statement by Tarcísio, last week, that it would be positive for more than one right-wing cadre to run for the Presidency of the Republic, because everyone is in a possible second round.
“Does this same logic apply to the Government of São Paulo? Because if it applies to the Government of São Paulo, it is worth it for the Liberal Party to have a candidate as well, because it helps the ticket of [deputado] state, helps the [deputado] federal. The Liberal Party is the largest party in the state of São Paulo and the largest party in Brazil”, said Gil this afternoon.
The PL is negotiating Tarcísio’s vice-presidential ticket in São Paulo. The national president of the party, , has defended the position, deputy André do Prado, his political godson.
Tarcísio’s statement about the union in the second round occurred on Thursday (29) the former president (PL) in the Federal District PM battalion known as Papudinha. According to the governor, Bolsonaro himself would have welcomed Governor Ronaldo Caiado’s (GO) affiliation with the PSD, adding that everyone.
The , even in the final stretch of the elections, has been preached by leaders of right-wing and center-right parties. However, Gil is part of a group of Bolsonarists who have criticized support for any presidential candidacy other than Flávio’s.
Despite being part of the base of the São Paulo government in Alesp, Gil presents a critical stance towards Tarcísio and publicly demands the governor’s support for Bolsonarism.
In his speech at the Alesp plenary, the deputy criticized people who were elected under the Bolsonaro flag and who have not yet expressed solidarity with Bolsonaro, who is in prison, or Flávio’s candidacy.
In this context, he added that he had adopted the family surname in his parliamentary name as a way of responding to a provocation from opposition deputies, who would have remembered that, in 2018, parliamentarians asked to include Lula in their respective names after the PT member’s arrest in Operation Lava Jato.
“I said that I have no problem putting President Bolsonaro’s name in my parliamentary name,” said Gil.
The deputy denied that the name change had political interests. He is considered for the Senate in the vacancy that, in principle, would have been destined for Eduardo Bolsonaro’s candidacy, but which was no longer an option after his move to the United States.
Gil’s nomination to the Senate is supported by Eduardo in a scenario of greater competition within the PL itself. Former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro, for example, is trying to make the name of federal deputy Rosana Valle viable for the dispute, while deputies Mario Frias and Marco Feliciano are also options considered by the party leadership.
“I put [o sobrenome Bolsonaro] in my parliamentary name, not as a political way to misuse President Bolsonaro’s name, but to make a point: here, yes, we defend President Bolsonaro and his family. It doesn’t matter if with the name or not, that doesn’t say if we are Bolsonaristas”, added Gil.
