The party of the president of , (PB), and the governor of , , will have as leader of its bench in the Chamber this year a deputy from the government wing, Augusto Coutinho (PE).
Coutinho is from the Republican directory in Pernambuco, which should support the re-election of the president (PT), and served as deputy leader of the government in the Chamber until this Wednesday (4). He will replace deputy Gilberto Abramo (MG), from the wing linked to the church and further to the right.
The leader is responsible for representing the bench in negotiations on projects, speaking on behalf of the party and discussing positions and releasing amendments with the government.
The new leader says that his electorate is divided between left and right and that his actions will be in defense of the Republicans and the bench. “It has no relation [com o governo]. I will represent the party on topics of interest to the party”, he states.
Members of the Republicans, however, are betting that the relationship with the Executive should improve with the exchange and with regional issues in Paraíba, but they rule out a national alignment with Lula in the election.
According to deputy Márcio Marinho, president of the Republicans in Bahia, the party’s national president, Marcos Pereira, has already made it clear that support in the election will be for a center-right candidate, which excludes the PT member.
“It is not hidden from anyone that the party’s deputies in Pernambuco support Lula. But this does not mean that the party is getting closer to the government nationally”, says Marinho.
Other parliamentarians, however, state that the acronym’s leadership is with the presidential candidacy of the senator (PL-RJ) and that it is discussing alternatives. The preferred option was Tarcísio’s candidacy, but the governor must run for re-election after Flávio announces his pre-candidacy.
