President Pavel faces sharp criticism. Minister Macinka claims that he will no longer be the president of all Czechs

Czech President Petr Pavel, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Environment and also the chairman of the Motoristi sebe party Petr Macinka, will no longer be the president of all Czechs. In response to Pavlo’s decision not to appoint Motorist MP Filip Turk as Minister of the Environment, he announced this in the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies on Wednesday. There, the extraordinary meeting to express no confidence in the government continues for the second day. At the same time, Macinka put forward his theory that Pavel is actually fighting the dark side of his past, into which he projects Turk, writes TASR correspondent in Prague.

In short:

  • President Pavel refused to appoint a Turk as a minister
  • Minister Macinka criticizes the president’s decision and its constitutionality
  • He accuses Pavel of presidential activism and non-objectivity
  • Macinka talks about Pavlo’s dark past and inner struggle

The minister emphasized that the president is neither the fourth party of the government nor the superior of the prime minister. “The president should act, not select. If we refuse to accept these simple sentences, we no longer have parliamentary democracy, but presidential activism,” the minister claimed. He repeated that, based on the constitution, Pavel should have appointed the entire government as Babiš proposed, including Turk. He called his decision not to appoint a Turk an attack on the constitutionality of the Czech political system. According to Macinka, Pavel uses unconvincing arguments that have already been refuted.

The theory of inner struggle

Subsequently, the head of Czech diplomacy reflected on what was “really” going on in the president’s mind. Allegedly, it is not a Turk. “Perhaps we are witnessing something completely different. We are watching the internal struggle of the president, who is not fighting for order and peace, as he assured us in his election campaign. Petr Pavel is now apparently fighting a difficult battle with the dark side of his personality and his own past,” Macinka developed his theory.

He referred to Paul’s words from 1987 about his attitude to the events in 1968, when he defended the invasion of Czechoslovakia by Warsaw Pact troops. However, he later condemned her and apologized for his words. “I believe that he is projecting this very infamous part of his own past into the person of Filip Turk, whom he is attacking through his supposed adoration of the totalitarian regime. But who showed this adoration in reality and who only had borderline humor?” Macinka asked the MPs. He alluded to Turko’s cases, when he allegedly wrote racist, xenophobic or sexist posts on social networks and called it dark humor himself.

The bridge was burned

“Mr. President Pavel will never be the president of everyone again. This bridge has definitely been burned,” the minister declared firmly. Referring to the text messages on the basis of which the president accused him of attempted blackmail, he pointed out that high-level politics is not for princesses. “To collapse from one or two more sharply worded non-public SMS may not be a sign of resilience, which is the necessary equipment of a top politician,” he emphasized. According to him, a tough clash is taking place in foreign forums in the promotion of national interests and policies, which represents the Czech Republic, according to him, he must be able to show elbows and not tears.
