Registration is now open for the 2026 edition of the Anja Niedringhaus Award for Courage in Photojournalism. The award, created in 2015 and organized by is named after a German photographer who died covering conflicts in April 2014.
Only women and non-binary people can compete. Registration is open until March 31st. The winner will have their work exhibited during the awards ceremony and will receive US$20,000 (around R$105,000).
It is not mandatory to have experience in conflict zones: the organization emphasizes that courage can manifest itself in different contexts and forms of coverage.
Applications must include a portfolio with 12 photographs, at least 6 of which were produced between 2024 and 2026, all accompanied by English captions with date, place and context. Images manipulated beyond basic color and contrast adjustments will not be accepted.
A statement from the candidate is also required, with up to 500 words, addressing her trajectory, working conditions and affinity with the values defended by Anja Niedringhaus.
It is possible to nominate other photographers, either through a complete application or a simplified nomination form. The winners and honorable mentions will be announced in May 2026.
