The vice-president of the Republic and minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, said this Thursday, 5th, that solid partnerships do not depend only on the global situation. He spoke at the opening of the VIII Meeting of the Brazil-Russia High Level Commission (CAN), saying that trade with the European country is significant, but could increase.
“Solid partnerships do not depend only on the situation, but on well-understood structural interests. Brazil and Russia are large-scale economies with a broad production base, strategic natural resources, technological capacity and relevant internal markets”, stated Alckmin.
According to him, countries can further increase trade. Brazil would be adopting a consistent policy of neo-industrialization and wants an industry that is greener, more digital and integrated into international value chains.
Opportunity with security!
“This combination creates concrete opportunities to expand, diversify and qualify our economic and commercial cooperation. Our exchange, although relevant, is still below the potential of both economies. Bilateral trade reached around US$11 billion in 2025. An expressive number, but modest given the productive, technological and logistical capabilities of Brazil and Russia”, added the vice-president.
For Alckmin, there is room for more Brazilian companies in Russia in the field of processed foods, machinery, equipment, medical devices, agricultural technology and industrial solutions. And there would also be opportunities for the Russians to invest in Brazil in the areas of chemistry, fertilizers, energy, industrial equipment and infrastructure.
