American entrepreneur, philanthropist and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has expressed regret for “every minute” he spent with financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. This was reported by the AFP agency on Thursday.
- Bill Gates regrets meeting with Jeffrey Epstein.
- Published documents show the contacts of famous people with Epstein.
- Gates denies affairs and relationships with women in Epstein’s circle.
- Gates’ ex-wife Melinda mentioned painful times in the marriage.
- Being included in the Epstein files does not necessarily mean illegal activity.
The latest batch of documents released by the US Department of Justice last week included emails between many prominent figures and Epstein; they often revealed warm friendships, illicit financial deals and private photographs.
Epstein a Gates
In a draft email found among the documents, Epstein claimed Gates had extramarital affairs. He also wrote that his relationship with Gates ranged from helping him get medication to deal with the effects of having sex with Russian girls to helping him have affairs with married women.
“Every minute I spent with him I regret and I apologize,” Gates said in an interview with 9News Australia on Wednesday. He added that the email in question was never sent and its content is false.
Denigrating Gates
A spokesman for Gates said the leaked documents only show Epstein’s frustration at not having an ongoing relationship with Gates and “the extent to which he was willing to trap and smear him.”
Gates’ ex-wife Melinda told US National Public Radio that the release of the Epstein documents reminded her of “some very, very painful moments” in the marriage. She added that the questions raised by the published documents must be answered by those concerned, including her ex-husband.
Gates denies the allegations
Gates said he met Epstein in 2011 and had several dinners with him over three years. However, he never visited his Caribbean island and did not have relationships with women who moved around Epstein.
“I always focused on the fact that he knew a lot of rich people and claimed he could convince them to donate money to global health. From today’s perspective, that was a dead end,” Gates said.
The inclusion of someone’s name in the Epstein files does not automatically mean that the person engaged in any illegal activity. However, these persons often downplay or even deny their contacts with Epstein.
