“No one here votes, even if I go to prison”: President of the Board threatens to boycott elections

The president of the Parish Council of São Simão de Litém, in the municipality of Pombal, threatened to boycott next Sunday’s elections in protest at the lack of support for the populations affected by the Kristin depression.

Speaking to SIC Notícias, Isabel Costa stated that the parish has been without electricity, water and communications for more than a week, denouncing a feeling of total abandonment. The mayor accuses political leaders and E-Redes of not being on the ground and ignoring the seriousness of the situation experienced by residents.

“We are abandoned, we are alone. Even if they take me to prison, on Sunday in São Simão no one will vote”, he stated, stressing that the absolute priority is the immediate reestablishment of essential services and urgent support for the population.
