Even after announcing his retirement, Acelino Popó Freitas will return to the ring and will once again be the big name of Fight Music Show 8. At 50 years old, the four-time world boxing champion will perform in the main fight of the event in a new duel against Whindersson Nunesrepeating the confrontation that marked the beginning of fights between celebrities in Brazil, in January 2022. The card is expected to take place in May, in São Paulo, with contracts already signed between the parties, according to information from the website “Combate.com”.
There is still no exact date, location or sales opening forecast for the event.
The first meeting between Popó and Whindersson ended in a draw, despite the former world champion’s extensive dominance, in a fight surrounded by a festive atmosphere. Since then, Popó has remained the absolute protagonist of the FMS, leading all editions of the event. During the period, he beat names like José “Pelé” Landy, Junior Dublê, Kleber Bambam, Daniel El Chino and Duda Nagle.
Popó’s last duel took place at Spaten Fight Night, against Wanderlei Silva, in September last year. After Popó’s victory due to his opponent’s disqualification, widespread confusion ensued. Popó broke his right hand during the riot and was suspended by the National Boxing Council (CNB) for 180 days, announcing his retirement.
Popó x Whindersson: numbers
Owner of a professional record with 41 wins and just two defeats, Popó had his peak between the end of the 1990s and the mid-2000s. World champion for the first time in 1999, he accumulated titles in different categories, including the super featherweight unification and the lightweight belt. His last fight at a high level was in 2007, before his first retirement. Afterwards, he returned to the ring in specific commitments, now far from fighting for titles.
On the other hand, Whindersson Nunes gained prominence in boxing precisely for facing Popó in the inaugural FMS. An internet and stage phenomenon, the comedian found a new personal path in sport. After that duel, he returned to fight in 2023, when he beat Filip Marcinek, but then accumulated defeats in international clashes, including the most recent one, in November 2024, against Neeraj Goyat, in his professional debut.
FMS 8: fights on the card
In addition to the main fight led by Popó, Fight Music Show 8 will also have other fights with popular appeal. One of them will be the duel between Kleber Bambam and Davi Brito, champions of Big Brother Brasil.
Bambam, winner of BBB 1, already faced Popó in February 2024 and ended up being knocked out in just 36 seconds. Davi Brito, BBB 24 champion, had his only fight at FMS in November last year, when he lost by unanimous decision to Sacha Bali. After exchanging provocations on social media, the confrontation between the two was confirmed by the organization.
