The Superior Court of Justice (STJ) opened an internal investigation last Tuesday (4) to investigate the accusation of sexual harassment which would have been practiced by minister Marco Aurélio Buzzi. The minister denies the accusation.

The decision was unanimously approved by the STJ plenary, which appointed ministers Raul Araújo, Isabel Gallotti and Antonio Carlos Ferreira to join the committee responsible for analyzing the accusation.

According to a statement released by the minister, the accusations do not correspond to the facts. “THE informs that he was surprised by the content of the insinuations published by a website, which do not correspond to the facts. In this sense, he repudiates any and all conclusions that he committed an improper act”, he stated.

HAS Young Panthe National Council of Justice (CNJ) reported that statements were taken in relation to the case this Wednesday morning (4). “The case is being processed within the scope of the National Justice Inspectorate, in secrecy, as required by Brazilian legislation. Such a measure is necessary to preserve the privacy and integrity of the victim, in addition to avoiding undue exposure and revictimization”, says the statement.

If proceedings are opened and Buzzi is convicted, he could face administrative sanctions, ranging from a warning to mandatory retirement. The victim’s mother, who is a lawyer, sought out ministers from the STJ to tell her about the case. A member of the court admitted that there is no willingness among colleagues to protect the accused minister.
