The Minister of Planning, Simone Tebetdefended that the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, makes himself available to be a candidate in October this year. She said that there is no way for him to “escape from this mission”, that “the picture doesn’t close without him” and that “he needs to be aware of this”.

“The president is talking to vice-president Geraldo Alckmin and minister Fernando Haddad. This is the next step. He talked this week and will talk next week”, he stated.

“And let’s see, I think there is no possibility of not having at least one pair in São Paulo. One swallow doesn’t make a summer, right. There is no way for Minister Haddad to escape this mission, like that. The picture doesn’t close without him. And he needs to have that awareness. I think he does”, declared the minister.

Tebet said she made herself available to be a candidate for the Senate – and not for the state government. He also stated that Haddad and Alckmin would be better candidates for government as they have more knowledge and more history in São Paulo.

“I think that the best names for the government of São Paulo, throughout history, because they know, because they are more linked to the figure of President Lula himself, are Haddad because he is from the PT and Alckmin because he is vice president. We are talking about getting votes for the federal majority. These two names, in my opinion, in the State government, attract more votes. It is a perception that I have. But in this process, the one who will lead is President Lula”, he declared.

“I have already made myself available to the president to compete for the Senate seat, either in Mato Grosso do Sul or in São Paulo. In other words, I have already made myself available to the team. And I believe that both of them (Alckmin and Haddad) will also do the same thing”, he concluded.

Tebet was asked if the hammer had already been dropped on the matter and said no. He also stated that there should be a new conversation after carnival to decide the São Paulo ticket.
