The second day of trilateral talks in the United Arab Emirates has ended, key territorial issues remain open

The second day of intensive trilateral negotiations between the delegations of Ukraine, Russia and the United States in Abu Dhabi has officially ended. Although the talks brought a concrete result in the form of the exchange of prisoners of war, the main stumbling block remains territorial claims, on which neither side has yet backed down.

The second day of trilateral negotiations between the delegations of the United States, Russia and Ukraine in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has ended. This was reported by the spokeswoman of the chief Ukrainian negotiator Rustem Umerova on Thursday afternoon, writes TASR according to a report by the AFP agency.

“Negotiations are over,” Diana Davityanova, spokeswoman for Ukraine’s chief negotiator and secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov, told reporters. She did not provide further information. In the morning, Umerov wrote on the X social network that the results of the second day of negotiations will be announced later.

Territorial issues remain disputed points

Delegation meetings were also held in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. Umerov wrote after them on the social network X without further details that during the first day of negotiations they focused on concrete steps and practical solutions. He called the trilateral negotiations with Russia and the United States substantive and productive.

The special envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kirill Dmitriyev, subsequently declared on Thursday that the negotiations with Ukraine in the UAE had brought about a shift. Russia’s territorial claims continue to be a point of contention, with no party yet showing willingness to reach a compromise.
