These common foods act as fuel for your brain: Protecting it from dementia!

The brain needs to receive certain nutrients for its proper functioning. They can be found, for example, in fish, nuts, avocados or dark chocolate. This was pointed out by the Regional Office of Public Health (RÚVZ) Bratislava.

As he stated, salmon, tuna, mackerel and other types of oilier fish are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which have a beneficial effect on the functioning of nerve brain cells, improve concentration and memory. They also alleviate the symptoms of mental illnesses such as depression or anxiety.

Walnuts or sunflower seeds contain vitamin E, which protects cells from the effects of free radicals and helps prevent dementia. Another useful food is avocado. According to experts, its consumption has many positives for health overall. “However, it is important for the brain that avocado combines omega-3 fatty acids, but also antioxidants, which has an effect on blood flow and the proper functioning of brain cells.” clarified the office.

Dark chocolate also helps the proper functioning of the brain, which improves cognitive and memory functions thanks to its flavonoid content. “Happiness hormones – endorphins – are also released when consuming it. In the store, look for high-quality types of chocolate that contain more than 70 percent cocoa.” added RÚVZ.

In addition to these foods, according to experts, vitamins A, B, C and K, as well as enough iron and zinc, are important for the brain. “We keep the brain in shape not only with proper diet and nutrition, but also by constantly exercising it, at any age. It is important that you constantly give it new impulses, ideas and stimuli, the solution of which will cost you at least some effort.” added the office.
