In “Dona Beja”, Pedro Fasanaro defends lightness when living as a trans woman

In the air in “Dona Beja”the actor Pedro Fasanaro celebrated his return to soap operas after his role in “Where the Strong Are Born” (2018), in HBO Max’s new format of focusing on plots told from serials.

For the actor, production for streaming expands creative possibilities and allows an approach closer to cinema, a language for which he has special appreciation.

“It’s interesting to return to the soap opera in this specific format, which is a soap opera on a streaming channel, right? Because it ends up not being exactly a soap opera like we are used to”, he stated. According to him, this model opens up space for new narrative experiments. “I feel like there’s even more space for other types of creativity, you know? I feel like it’s even a little closer to cinema, which is why I’m really passionate about it.”

The actor also highlights the care taken in constructing the character Severina, a trans woman whose trajectory is presented over a broad range of life. “You understand the character’s entire trajectory, you know? Because it ends up being a story, a longer section of this person’s life, this figure”, he explained. For Pedro, this type of development arouses curiosity and engagement among the public: “it’s interesting, I think it really arouses curiosity, it instigates”.

When talking about the essence of Severina, Fasanaro highlights that, despite the complexity and pain that permeates her story, the character is guided by affection. “I think she is such a complex character, she talks about so much pain, but at the same time she is so sweet,” he says. For him, lightness is a central element of interpretation. “I really hope that people can look at Severina and be inspired to deal with life and things in a light way, you know? And with love and affection.”

“I think that’s what ends up guiding her throughout the entire novel”, he concluded.

The HBO Max narrative explores empowerment, desire and revenge, reliving the trajectory of the courtesan, who challenged conventions in Araxá.

The cast is made up of Grazi Massafera, David Junior, André Luiz Miranda, Pedro Fasanaro, Bianca Bin, Deborah Evelyn, Indira Nascimento, Bukassa Kabengele, Otavio Muller, Isabela Garcia, Erika Januza, Tuca Andrada, Kelzy Ecard, Werner Schunemann, Thalma de Freitas, Gabriel Godoy, Ricardo Burgos, Catharina Caiado, Lucas Wickhaus, Luciano Quirino, João Villa, Rita Pereira, Simone Mazzer, Isabelle Nassar, Nikolas Antunes, Eduardo Pelizzari, Arilson Lucas, Paulo Mendes and Miguel Rômulobetween others.
