Slovak President Peter Pellegrini traveled to Milan on Friday, where he will participate in the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics. At Milan’s San Siro stadium, together with thousands of athletes and invited guests, he will watch a program symbolizing the union of sport, culture and the values of the Olympic movement called Harmony. TASR was informed about this by the Office of the President of the Slovak Republic.
- President Pellegrini will attend the opening ceremony of the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan.
- He will open the Czech Olympic House with the Czech president to support sports diplomacy.
- The President will also visit the reception at the invitation of Italian President Mattarella.
- On Saturday, he will open the Slovak Olympic House Casa Slovacca in the center of Milan.
- Pellegrini is planning a bilateral meeting with Hungarian President Sulyok.
Even before the ceremonial start of the Olympic Games, Pellegrini will participate together with Czech President Peter Pavlo at the opening of the Czech Olympic House. “With this symbolic gesture, they will emphasize the close relations between the countries also in the field of sports diplomacy,” pointed out from the office. They announced that the head of state will also participate in the ceremonial reception at the invitation of Italian President Sergio Mattarella.
The program of the President of the Slovak Republic continues on Saturday (February 7) with the opening of the Slovak Olympic House – Casa Slovacca, to which the President of the Czech Republic also accepted an invitation. “The house is located in the prestigious premises of the Galleria Meravigli in the center of Milan. It will be the place where during the Games the motto of the Slovak Olympic expedition, ‘Staying Together’, will be symbolically fulfilled,” added from the office. Pellegrini should still meet with the Hungarian head of state Tamás Sulyok for bilateral negotiations in Milan and visit the Slovak hockey team for training.
