Councilors from , including those from opposition parties, approved a request sent to the mayor (), this Thursday (5), to publish the list of the largest debtors registered in the municipality’s Active Debt. Nunes’ allies say the expectation is that the mayor will respond to the request.
The submission of the request was approved symbolically among 47 of the 55 councilors.
The measure, according to parliamentarians, is a step towards raising awareness of tax responsibility among directors of institutions and business owners.
In the text, the councilors argue that other bodies, such as the PGFN (National Treasury Attorney General’s Office) and the PGE (State Attorney General’s Office), already carry out this type of advertising.
“Disclosure of the list represents a fundamental step towards strengthening social control over fiscal management and promoting tax responsibility”, says the request.
“By publicizing this information, the city hall contributes to civic awareness and to the effective recovery of resources that are essential for financing public policies and services to the population”, add the councilors.
