Another avalanche fell in the Tatras: A tourist alerted the help, mountain rescuers in action!

A smaller avalanche fell in Veľká Studena dolina in the High Tatras on Saturday. Mountain rescuers ended the search of the avalanche site with a negative result. The Mountain Rescue Service (HZS) confirmed this for TASR.

As specified on its website, the HZS emergency call center received a report of an avalanche in Veľká Studena dolina in the early afternoon. The informant was on a blue tourist trail and, in addition to the massive sound of the avalanche that fell from the Grosz chute area, he also heard several people from the given location.

Cooperation was requested from the Helicopter Rescue Medical Service, which, however, was unable to take off due to adverse conditions. From Starý Smokovec, rescuers from the Vysoké Tatry Regional Center of the High Tatras were heading to check the avalanche site.

“There were climbers at the site who were climbing the ice and were not hit by the fall of the avalanche. The rescue team also searched the area in question with the help of a drone. A dog handler with an avalanche dog was also deployed,” adds HZS, adding that the search of the avalanche site was completed with a negative result. In the Tatras, above the forest line, there is a slight avalanche danger on Saturday, i.e. the second level on the five-part international scale.
